Being bereaved by the loss of a loved one will affect all of us at some point in our lives. Everyone deals with the experience in different ways and goes through a range of emotions. Family and friends provide good support but it's easy to feel you're burdening them with your troubles. Maybe you feel you should be able to get over it? Common emotions people expeience include disbelief, shock, anger, sadness, relief, guilt, depression, anxiety, despair, longing and loneliness. These are understandable reactions and may be accompanied by physical symptoms indicative of distress.
More complicated grief reactions can continue for years after the bereavement. Grief counselling provides an opportunity to resolve lingering emotional problems.
